It is ironic that every time I start to organize the garage I come across something that somehow ties to what I am thinking/feeling/experiencing at the given time. I found two more boxes (yes I know, there are a lot) with some family albums in them. As I flipped the pages I came across a photo that said “The Greatest Family in the World” the Nickolaou’s. I smiled and immediately loved the fact that dad putting this together 20 years ago was so prideful. I flipped the page, I saw another post-it with the following written:
If I had to raise my children again, I would–
- I’d build self-esteem first, and the house later.
- I’d finger paint more, and point the finger less
- I would do less correcting and more connecting
- I’d take my eyes off my watch, and look with my eyes.
- I’d take more hikes and fly more kites
- I’d stop playing serious, and seriously play.
- I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars
- I would do more hugging and less tugging.
Sometimes the answers to today’s troubles are in a box that’s in the garage. Dad has been gone for 8 years and yet his advice is found. It is no lie that I had a tough week with Maddox and homeschooling. (absolute squirrel) and after reading this I realize that he is still a kid and I need to not be so serious.
Thanks, Dad for the advice.
