Posted by We embarked on our annual Summer boys trip. This year we took a different approach and focused the trip on a few different locations.
We departed Orlando and headed to Pittsburgh, the first stop on our trip. Excited and eager we headed straight to PNC Park for the Cubs vs Pirates game. Maddox & I have developed a tradition to visit the many ballparks of the MLB over the summer and this park as #15 did not disappoint. Probably one of the most picturesque ballparks we have been too, the view of the river and the rest of Pittsburgh is truly breathtaking. The remainder of the stadium has solid amenities with your basic stadium food. The game was awesome as we saw the cubs explode with a ton of runs and home runs. Including a grand slam.
That night we headed downtown to Primanti Brothers to get a bite. This world-famous sandwich destination was a lot of fun as we experienced it. The food was good a bit bland for our taste buds but presented over the top. The slaw we would rate as the best part of the sandwich.
The next day we headed to Kennywood where we planned on checking over the roller coasters to our count. We track our coaster we ride across the country; we have not been to this park so it was important to check these off our list. Kennywood was a fun park; our favorite was Phantom’s Revenge & the wooden coaster ‘Racer’. We could hit all the coasters and see the work they were doing on Steel Curtain (which opened a week after we visited). We then headed to Idlewild to check off another coaster there & eat some ice cream. A cute children’s park that is adorable in telling the classic storybook tales to their guests. After all of this we capped off the evening with a find on our way to Washington DC. Buddy Lou’s was an extraordinary restaurant that we enjoyed.
Overall, the Pennsylvania portion of the trip was truly fantastic. It is a beautiful state and we had a lot of fun seeing the stadium and riding the coasters. It did rain a lot over the summer. Sort of like Florida there are always afternoon thunderstorms. However that being said, it was a good time.
